Last week Augusta’s DA Jared Williams won the catch and release fishing tournament being held at Clarks Hill Lake.
Williams boasted that his success was due to his extensive experience releasing things. It was unclear if Williams meant fish or criminals. When asked to clarify he stated the same concepts that apply to fish apply to criminals.
“I believe in rehabilitation. Criminals can’t be rehabilitated unless they are first set free. I firmly believe that setting violent criminals free and showing them mercy will translate to these folks having mercy on potential future victims,” Williams said. “These violent criminals are not committing crimes because they want to. It’s because they are simply misunderstood.”
